5.0 out of 5 stars Generic USB charger, USB cable not included, September 28, 2011

This review is from: Kindle US Power Adapter (Not included with Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle, or Kindle Touch) (Accessory)
This exact power adapter came standard with what Amazon calls now the 'Kindle Keyboard' models (Kindle 3) but NOT with the Kindle Touch and the least expensive model ($69 no touch) now known as plain 'Kindle'. It can be used just about anywhere in the world (100-240V) for as long as you have the proper plug adapter.

To charge a Kindle you will need a generic USB Type A/Micro B cable and one is supplied with every Kindle purchased and you can do it in several different ways:

- Off a laptop or PC through one of their 'powered' USB ports (you will need a laptop or a PC)
- With this adapter which comes with all Kindle 3s or can be purchased separately (you will need the Amazon-supplied or any generic USB cable)
- With a third-party, branded or generic USB charger (search Amazon for either 'kindle charger' or 'usb charger')

This specific charger works for all 3d and 4th generation Kindles and is also great for charging lots of other gadgets that... Read more

This review is from: Kindle US Power Adapter (Not included with Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle, or Kindle Touch) (Accessory)
This is just a regular usb charger, one of these even came with a 5 dollar lamp I purchased, and they can't throw it in with a 79 dollar kindle? You can buy one anywhere on the net or in some stores starting at 99 cents or less. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS, it is an easy way to trick kindle owners out of an extra 9 to 14 dollars. It is Outrageous to prey on people's ignorance like this, especially with such a popular product. I can see my older relatives getting tricked into buying this.

This review is not on the quality of the product but on the need and cost. This is not unit specific. I am using my Samsang phone charger usb to AC part for mine. You can pick them up on the net or at radio shack for as cheap as 99 cents.

Any of those on this page will work it just doesn't say Kindle. But you probably have one if you have a cell phone or some other electronic divice ... like an MP3 player.

2.0 out of 5 stars Shamefully rife with advertising, August 19, 2003
    By A Customer
This review is from: National Geographic Kids (Magazine)
This "magazine" is actually advertising with a few decent articles and activities mixed in. I was shocked when my six-year-old son received his first issue--it was filled with food, clothing, and media ads. There is also some lame content that looks like an activity but is really advertising (the latest issue has a two-page spread that has kids look for the brand-name cereal pieces that don't match the others). I cannot believe that National Geographic would even consider being associated with this publication.

Kids are bombarded enough with advertising via television, movies, and fast food restaurants. Do we really need to target their developing minds during a simple pleasure such as reading? I should think the goal of a decent children's magazine is to get the child to sit calmly, relax, and read; this magazine simply adds to the culture of hype and cross-promotion.

If you don't want your child thinking that "Kim Possible", Pokemon, and Froot Loops are subjects of a science... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars When did this magazine head south?, March 30, 2004
Nola (Bay Area, California, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: National Geographic Kids (Magazine)
I had a subscription to National Geographic's original kids magazine, World, when I was a child. In fact, I still have a couple dozen issues from about 25 years ago, which my 5 years old son has enjoyed looking through.

A few months ago, I looked on the web to see if World still existed. Happily, it did, now renamed National Geographic Kids. I ordered a two-year subscription for my son.

I wanted so much to like it. But the damn thing is chock full of advertising for candy, video games and movies, and in a way that makes it hard to separate the selling from the educating. It is a little repulsive, actually, the level to which the advertising is carried.

As I sit here in front of my computer, I am looking wistfully at a May 1982 issue of World magazine. Within which, there is not one stich of advertising.

    What happened?

I'm so glad we didn't buy a subscription to National Geographic Kids magazine without checking it out at the news stand first! It truly seemed like there were more pages of ads than of actual CONTENT in this magazine.

If you're looking for a good kids' magazine about nature & wildlife, try one of the National Wildlife Federation's excellent publications. My kids enjoy Your Big Backyard (for ages 3-7) and Ranger Rick (for kids 7 & up), both of which are available through Amazon.com or [...]

Kids Discover magazine (for 6-12 year olds) is another favorite with my children (and me) and contains great science & social studies articles without the commercials of NG Kids. You can subscribe through Amazon or [...]

Who doesn't know National Geographic? Despite the term 'national' in the title, this is a publication that has an international reputation, and has set its sights on exploring every inch of the globe, and beyond. School children everywhere use National Geographic as a resource. It is a periodical, however, that goes far beyond the school library. Interesting, erudite, broad-ranging and fascinating (in addition to being, dare I say it, educational), National Geographic has something for everyone.

Articles involve history, culture, sociology, biology, architecture, archaeology, and physical science in addition to the trademark item, geography. Recent issues have included articles on archaeology of the Indus Valley, earthquakes in Turkey, Samoan culture, jellyfish, and dinosaurs. National Geographic has a knack for combining the timely with the timeless to make each issue interesting from a current events perspective (recent articles on the Golan Heights and touring London show this)... This review is from: National Geographic (Magazine)
      GREAT MAGAZINE - BUT ...

I can not stress to you enough not to buy this on Amazon through Synapse Services, Inc. You will not get your magazine, you will not receive a refund, and you will waste your time and money! Flush your money, it's more effictive way to get rid of it.

I purchased NG for my father in June 6th 2010 as a renewal to his subscription which was expiring on Feburary 2011. I just got a last chance renewal from NG, they say my subscription is expiring? It should be good till Feburary 2012! They said they did receive an order from Synapse on June 10th but then it was canceled by Synapse in July?

NG was nice enough to give me Synapse's phone number 877-813-0320. Be sure to press 0 and go for the agent, even though it won't help you, the supervisor can't help you either!

I just got off a long phone call with Synapse Services, Inc. they canceled the subscription for no reason on their end. They never fullfilled the request... Read more

I bought National Geographics for my elderly father over 3 months ago. To this day no magazines have arrived. Tired of waiting and after a phone call from him, I barred the wait to talked to someone in NG. They told me that going through Amazon takes at least 3 months!!! and that they have shiped my order two day ago and it will take 2 weeks in transport. If I go directly through them it takes 1 months.
